ESCLUSIVA MP – Marit Grødum: “Per i Mondiali l’Italia può farcela”

Agli appassionati di Calcio Femminile internazionale sicuramente questo nome farà suonare più di qualche campanello nella mente. Marit Fiane Grødum (conosciuta anche con il nome da nubile Marit Fiane Christensen) infatti è una delle giocatrici più rappresentative della nazionale norvegese ed ha collezionato ben 86 presenze con la sua nazionale, mettendo a segno tra l’altro 11 reti. Contattata dalla redazione di Mondopallone.it, la Grødum ha accettato di scambiare quattro chiacchiere con noi a proposito della sua carriera e della sua esperienza nel mondo del calcio. L’intervista è presentata anche in lingua inglese.

1) Marit, sei una della calciatrici più famose della tua nazione, e sei vicina a raggiungere il traguardo delle 100 presenze in nazionale. Quanto è importante per te essere una giocatrice chiave della Norvegia? Sei orgogliosa della tua carriera internazionale?

Ci sono molte giocatrici chiave in squadra. Sono onorata di giocare in nazionale e lavoro duro per giocare ogni partita. Raggiungere le 100 presenze sarebbe entusiasmante, ma al momento sembra un traguardo ancora lontano, visto che al momento aspetto un bambino.

2) La fase di qualificazione della Coppa del Mondo è iniziata in maniera positiva per la Norvegia, anche se c’è ancora molto da giocare. Quali sono gli obiettivi della squadra in questa competizione? Cercherete di confermare le buone cose mostrate l’estate scorsa negli Europei in Svezia?

La squadra cercherà di confermare quanto fatto negli Europei, ma è ugualmente importante migliorare come squadra, e ogni giocatrice dovrà fare ancora meglio. Quello che si è fatto agli Europei non sarà sufficiente nella Coppa del Mondo.

3) Negli Europei avete conquistato un notevole secondo posto. Ciò è stato un netto miglioramento rispetto al quarto del 2009. Credi che sia dovuto all’aggiunta di alcune giovani in squadra? Puoi nominarmi qualche tua giovane compagna che credi possa diventare una giocatrice mondiale in pochi anni?

Credo che questo sia stato possibile grazie alla combinazione tra giocatrici giovani e giocatrici di esperienza. Caroline Hansen, Ada Hegerberg e Kristine Minder saranno ancora più importanti in futuro.

4) Le nuove leve forse hanno portato una ventata d’aria fresca nella squadra, ma tu e giocatrici come Hjelmseth, Stensland e Gulbrandsen siete ancora i pilastri della squadra. Quanto è importante per le più giovani avere giocatrici d’esperienza al loro fianco?

Credo che il supporto di chi ha più esperienza è importante per lo sviluppo della squadra e per migliorare il rapporto con gli allenatori. Per quanto mi riguarda, mi è piaciuto avere giocatrici più anziane in squadra da studiare e dalle quali imparare.

5) Giochi nella Toppserien, il massimo campionato norvegese. Ma, a differenza della nazionale, i club sembrano faticare sulla scena europea. L’ultima squadra a raggiungere i quarti di finale nella Champions femminile infatti è stata il Røa nel 2009/10. Cosa ne pensi della Toppserien? Credi che sia una lega di alto profilo nonostante i risultati europei?

Il campionato è abbastanza scadente, al momento. Spero che il livello si alzerà, ma al momento non è abbastanza buono. La differenza tra i top club e quelli di seconda fascia è troppo ampia. Però le buone squadre hanno ottimi giocatori, come ad esempio lo Stabaek, che schiera 11 nazionali.

6) Il calcio femminile sfortunatamente è ancora molto sottovalutato e non riesce a guadagnarsi l’attenzione mediatica che hanno le competizioni maschili. Ma gli ultimi Europei femminili hanno mostrato un incremento sostanziale di spettatori. Credi che il calcio femminile è sulla strada giusta per crescere ulteriormente?

Gli Europei attirano sempre l’attenzione quando facciamo bene, ma non dura a lungo. La nazionale ha acquisito più popolarità rispetto ai club, ma credo che abbiamo ancora una lunga strada da fare. Può essere un po’ più popolare rispetto ad alcuni anni fa, ma non tanto quanto speravo.

7) La nazionale italiana sta faticando nelle qualificazioni della Coppa del Mondo e la Spagna sta seriamente minacciando la leadership nel gruppo di qualificazione. Cosa pensi della squadra italiana? Credi che riusciranno a ottenere la qualificazione alla fine?

Mi piacerebbe che riuscissero a qualificarsi sia Italia che Spagna. Sono grandi nazioni che sono cresciute molto di recente. Hanno ottimi attaccanti e, se riescono a non concedere reti facilmente, credo che saranno molto pericolose in futuro.

8) Hai avuto l’opportunità di vincere diversi trofei nella tua carriera, specialmente mentre militavi nel Røa e ora sei una delle giocatrici più importanti della tua nazione e dell’Europa. Sei soddisfatta di quello che hai ottenuto nella tua carriera? Che piani hai per il futuro?

Come detto, ho diversi medaglie d’oro a livello nazionale, ma non ho nessuna medaglia a livello internazionale. Non posso dire di essere soddisfatta finché non centrerò una vittoria anche fuori dai confini, ma personalmente Euro 2013 è stato un bel torneo. Credo però di poter fare ancora meglio.

1) Marit, you are one of the most famous female footballer of your country, and you’re close to reach the goal of the 100 caps for your national team. How much is important for you to be a key player for your country? Are you proud of your international career?

There are many key players at the team. I am honored to play and I work hard to play every game. Reaching 100 caps would be exciting, but at the moment that seems far away since I’m pregnant .

2) The World Cup qualification phase has begun in a positive manner for Norway, even if there’s still a long way to go. What are the goals of your team in the competition. Will you try to confirm the good things showed last summer in Sweden’s Euro?

The team will try to hold on the good things from the European Championship , but it is important to develop as a team too, and each player needs to play even better. What was done in Euros won’t be good enough in the World Cup.

3) In the last Women’s Euro you achieved an impressive second place. It was a good improvement from the 4th place of 2009. Do you think that it is due to the addition of some young players in the team? Can you name one of your young international teammates that you believe could become a world-class player in a few years?

I think it was due to the combination between experienced and young players. Caroline G. Hansen, Ada Hegerberg and Kristine Minder will be even more important in the future.

4) Young players maybe have bring fresh momentum to the team, but you and players like Hjelmseth, Stensland and Gulbrandsen are still the pillars of the team. How much is important for youngsters to have experienced players at their side?

It think that is important for the team to develop, and for the improvement of the connection with the coaches. Myself I liked having the older players on the team to look at and learn from.

5) You’re playing in norwegian Toppserien. But unlike the national team, norwegian clubs seem to struggle on the European stage. The last team to reach the quarter finals in the Women’s Champions League in fact was Røa in the 2009/10 season. What do you think about the Toppserien level? Do you think it’s an high-profile league despite the poor european results?

The league is too poor actually. Hopefully the level will increase, but at the moment it is not good enough. The difference between the top teams and the bottom ones is too high. But the good teams have really good players, like Stabaek that have 11 national players.

6) Women football unfortunately is still heavily underrated and fails to get the media hype that surrounds men’s competitions. But last Women’s Euro edition showed a substantial increase of attendance. Do you think that women’s football is on the right track to grow further?

The Euros are always popular if we do well, but it never lasts. The national team is more popular than the clubs, but I still think we have a long way to go. It might be slightly more popular than some years ago, but not as much as I hoped.

7) Italian national team is struggling in the qualification for the World Cup and Spain is seriously undermining its leadership in the qualification group. What do you think about the italian team? Do you think they’ll be able to get qualification at the end?

I’d like both Italy and Spain to qualify. They’re big nations which have developed a lot lately. They have really good attackers, and if they don’t concede “easy” goals, I think they will be really dangerous in the future.

8) You had the chance to win several trophies in your career, especially in your period with Røa and you are now one of the most important footballers of your country and also of Europe. Are you satisfied with what you have achieved in your career? What are your plans for the future?

As you say I have lots of gold medals in Norway, but I don’t have any international gold medal. I can’t say I’m satisfied as long as I don’t get any international win, but for me personally Euro 2013 was a good tournament, although I still think I can do better.
